ASTM B139 C54400
ASTM B103 C54400
SAE J461
SAE J463

Key Features

A low cost bearing bronze which is free cutting, has good cold working properties and is suitable for blanking, forming and bending.

The tin helps to improve the corrosion resistance and the phosphorus enhances the bearing and wear resistance. The alloy can be produced with a fine grain structure and high fatigue properties.

Typical Uses

General engineering: The combination of high tensile and good ductility combined with excellent corrosion resistance makes this alloy ideal for fasteners.

Additional applications include, spring washers, corrosion resistant bellows, sleeve bearings and thrust washers.

ASTM C54400

A wrought gun metal CuSn4Pb4Zn3 which meets the requirements of ASTM B 139 C54400 alloy B2. The alloy is normally manufactured in hard temper, which produces particularly high tensile properties. With the addition of lead the alloy is free machining compared with the straight tin bronzes and is used in a wide variety of high demanding bearing applications. Due to the presence of 4% lead, C54400 possess an extent of self-lubrication, which will be an advantage in applications with difficult access for lubrication.
