TRACEABILITY TO THE ORIGINAL MELT

Each cast is a unique entity and is allocated a melt number which is marked on the product throughout manufacture. All tests and inspections are related to each specific melt and are traceable to it.

When product is delivered, the unique melt number can be clearly seen marked on each piece and the accompanying material certification references this unique number, showing the actual results of all product verification testing.

MATERIAL TESTING

All product is tested and inspected in accordance with the ordered material specification, component drawing notes, product definitions and any other technical specifications. Tests performed on the actual product are carried out to recognized standards and may include the following:

DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

  • Chemical composition
  • Tensile strength
  • Proof stress / yield strength
  • % Elongation
  • Hardness
  • Grain size

NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

  • Ultrasonic inspection assessing internal soundness
  • Dye penetrant testing assessing surface quality
  • Visual inspection
  • Dimensional inspection
  • Surface texture
  • Relative magnetic permeability
  • Electrical conductivity or resistivity

CERTIFICATION OF PRODUCT

Every delivery is accompanied by unique material certification which clearly states the results of all the tests performed on the delivered product. Additional documentation, such as heat treatment certification and completed quality plans are also provided as required by the customer’s order as well as technical and quality specification.

As a minimum the delivered product is identified with the original melt number and the product is clearly and positively related to the documentation. We take pride in providing the clearest and most comprehensive certification packs available anywhere. This makes life easy for our customers who appreciate the clear presentation of all the information required to verify product quality.

BS EN 10204: 3.1 MILL CERTIFICATION

This is our company default level of testing and certification. Tests are performed on the actual delivered product against the requirements of the order, material specification as well as other technical and quality demands. The actual results of these tests are reported on our material certificates, which are legally signed for by a person within our quality team, which is independent from production.

These documents are True Mill Certificates – direct from the manufacturer and are on our company letterhead. By ordering your material and components from Copper Alloys Ltd, you will be certain to receive compliant hardware backed up with robust documentation.

BS EN 10204 TYPE 3.2 CERTIFICATION

This involves a 3rd party (usually nominated by the customer), such as Lloyds Register, countersigning the Mill Certificate. Usually the 3rd party will oversee the normal manufacturing process, witnessing traceability and the extraction of test specimens prior to doing this. Testing is also usually witnessed.

Ultimately, the 3rd party counter-signs all certification and may hard stamp the product with their unique inspection stamp. As the manufacturing mill, Copper Alloys Ltd can provide True 3.2 certification packs.
