Tracing it’s roots back over 100 years to the first production run of Aluminium Bronze, CAL has a well-known heritage in the production of high integrity metals.

The ability to make great metal is the cornerstone of CAL, and we have continued to develop and enhance the range of alloys and the process technology employed to generate increasingly extreme combinations of mechanical and physical properties.

The very best of these alloys are called The Elite Alloys. To become an Elite Alloy, the combination of properties has to be beyond anything else readily available in the world.

The Elite Alloys come in three groups:
  • Elite Marine Alloys - High strength alloys designed to last decades in aggressive and corrosive environments
  • Elite Thermal Alloys - Strong, corrosion resistant highly conductive alloys
  • Elite Bearing Alloys - Advanced bearing materials
Alloy range

CAL can supply and generic copper-based and nickel-based alloy. Currently producing over 350 different alloys, the production range includes:

Copper Alloys
  • Aluminium Bronze (CuAl)
  • Cupro-Nickel
  • Silicon Bronze
  • All other bronzes

Specialist Steels
  • UNS S20910
  • XM-19 NACE
  • MR 01-75

Nickel Alloys
  • Nickel Alloy K-500
  • Nickel Alloy 400
  • Nickel Alloy 502
  • Nickel-based super alloys
  • Nickel-Copper alloys
Formats and Sizes

It is important to CAL to be able to meet demand for the Elite Alloys in every size and shape, however there are some physical limits to production by alloy, so please contact us to check feasibility if its not clear.

Copper Alloys Ltd can provide the largest ingots and heaviest-section forged products available anywhere due to industry-leading process technology that ensures a large total forging reduction and a uniform fine-grain wrought structure in the finished product. Our capacity continues to evolve and widen as we service ever increasing customer demands.

The Elite Alloys come in three groups:
  • Bars - (square / flat / round) from 10mm to 500mm (0.375”-20”) in section
  • Forgings - (to 25,000Kgs): Blocks / Rings to 2400mm (8ft) outer ø / Shafts to 7000mm (23ft) long / Discs to 1270mm (50”) ø

  • Proof machined or finished components built to print

Alloy Development

Our metallurgists and material engineers love a challenge. Over the years we have developed custom metals for many customers and applications. From high-end watches to food processing and down-hole tooling, CAL specialises in developing metals when existing metals and coatings are insufficient. Our solutions can elegantly remove the need for complicated coatings or welding as they tend to be focused on creating a base metal that will do exactly what you need it to do.

To support the development process, the metallurgists at CAL have an array of tools and instruments at their disposal. They are regularly using Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), optical microscopes, grain structure analysis, compositional examination systems, R&D furnaces and heat treatment machines.

Testing and Inspection

CAL has an in-house non-destructive testing facility that is dedicated to ensuring the integrity of the metals and components we produce. We have experts in Ultrasonic Examination, Dye Penetrant Examination, Visual Examination, Magnetic Particle Inspection who write procedures to meet most acceptance criteria.

The ability to control chemistry is critical to the material creation process at CAL, and we have several state-of-the-art chemical analysis capabilities including X-ray and Refraction to enable the production of ever-increasing purity of metals.
